5 Minutes with Julien Macdonald
We went to check out Julien Macdonald's new studio in Notting Hill, and got a few snaps while we were there!

"A girl can never go wrong with a classic pair of black court Louboutins!"
Who do you use to design shoe's for your collections?
We collaborate with shoe designer, Tengiz Charkviani. We work with him
through design concept through to process and swatches.
Who designed the shoe's for the latest collection?
We have worked with Tengiz for the past two seasons. We work on a "For
Julien Macdonald" basis as it is a collaboration so the past seasons have
been shoes by Charkviani for Julien Macdonald.
Do you collaborate with the shoe designer in terms of the look you want for the collection?
I like to incorporate my collection research into the shoe research so that
it is cohesive with the garments. So I will pull together an image and
swatch board to show the shoe designer and then we work on sketches
together. I always request to see a pro-type before going ahead with the
final product.
I noticed you had some Nicholas Kirkwood shoes, did he design specifically for your collection or did you just choose those?
Nicholas Kirkwood is a shoe designer that I am a big fan of, his shoe lasts
are unique and work so well on the catwalk. Our Nicholas Kirkwood shoes were not a collaboration but were kindly loaned to me by Nicholas for my
Autumn/Winter 12 Bespoke collection Photoshoot.
Who is your favourite shoe designer?
A girl can never go wrong with a classic pair of black court Louboutins! But
for men I love Prada and Dior shoes, they are always on trend and classic.
What shoes are you currently wearing?
I have a selection of styles that I love to wear (Always black) ranging from Chelsea boots to high rise trainers! I am currently wearing a great pair of black Prada loafers with an electric blue sole which I love!
